Overview PIPEDA

Festival Life ("we", "us", "our") is operated from Canada and is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws.

This policy explains what information we collect when you visit festivallife.ca, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information automatically when you visit the site:

• Usage data — pages visited, time on site, browser type, operating system, referring URL
• Device data — screen resolution, language preference, approximate geographic region (country/city level via IP)
• Session identifiers — anonymous session tokens used by analytics tools; these do not identify you personally

If you use our Submit an Event form, we collect:

• Your name and email address (required to respond to your submission)
• Event details you provide (name, date, city, genre, ticket URL, description)

We do not collect: passwords, payment details, social security numbers, or sensitive personal data.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use the following cookies and browser storage mechanisms:

• Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — analytics cookies to understand aggregate site usage. GA4 sets _ga and _ga_* cookies with a 2-year lifetime. IP addresses are anonymised at collection.
• cookie-ok — a localStorage key we set when you dismiss the cookie banner. Contains only the string "1". No personal data.
• fl_saved — a localStorage key storing IDs of events you have bookmarked. Stored only in your browser; never sent to our servers.
• fl_genre — a localStorage key storing your genre preference for the feed. Stored only in your browser.

You can clear all local storage at any time via your browser's developer tools or privacy settings. This will reset your saved events and genre preference.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with Festival Life. GA4 collects anonymised data including:

• Pages viewed and time spent on each page
• Events such as filter clicks, ticket link clicks, and search queries
• Approximate location (country and city — no precise geolocation)
• Device and browser type

This data is processed by Google LLC. You can review Google's privacy policy and Google's data processing agreement applies. We have enabled IP anonymisation and do not share data with Google for advertising purposes.

GA4 data is retained for 14 months per Google's default retention setting.

Event Submissions — Form Data

The Submit an Event form uses Netlify Forms to process submissions. When you submit a form:

• Your submission is stored securely in Netlify's infrastructure (US-based servers)
• We receive your submission by email to review and publish
• We use your email only to follow up on your submission — never for marketing without your consent
• Netlify's privacy policy governs their data handling

Form submissions are retained for up to 12 months. You may request deletion at any time by emailing us.

Affiliate Links & Third-Party Sites

Festival Life links to third-party ticketing platforms including Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, Dice.fm, and festival official websites. We may append UTM parameters and affiliate identifiers to these links so we can measure traffic we send.

When you click a ticket link and leave our site, the privacy policy of the destination site applies. We are not responsible for third-party data practices.

We participate in the Ticketmaster Affiliate Program. We may earn a commission on ticket purchases made through our links, at no additional cost to you.

Your Rights Under PIPEDA

As a Canadian resident, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of personal information we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate personal information
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent to our use of your data at any time
• Complaint — file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Data Retention & Security

We retain anonymised analytics data for up to 14 months. Form submission data is retained for up to 12 months. We do not retain any other personal data.

Festival Life is hosted on Vercel's global edge network. Data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.3. We follow industry-standard security practices and conduct periodic reviews of our data handling.

In the event of a data breach that poses a risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by PIPEDA.

Children's Privacy

Festival Life is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Some events listed on Festival Life may be 18+ or 19+ (depending on province). We do not verify the age of visitors.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

For material changes, we will display a notice on the site for 30 days.
